Economical downfalls shattered the well-being of families in Russia putting many Jewish children at risk. Aspiring to safeguard their childhood and ensure their future, JDC launched its Children’s Initiative in 2002. The program provides material and social support for children from vulnerable families, activates local administrative resources through advocacy, assists the parents in restoring their professional lives and connects these families to their local Jewish communities. Russian educational system is ill-equipped to accommodate special needs children and simply ignores them. Therefore, they need special attention- preparing such a child to be mainstreamed is crucial, as well as preparing educational space for embracing and caring for him or her. Launched in 2006, Jewish Family Service now supports 500 Jewish families in Moscow about 2000 children in Moscow and Central Russia receive various material or social assistance; initiated in partnership with the Jewish Agency “Integration” projects mainstreams children with special needs into educational system.

	Jewish Family Services Comprehensive care for families at risk: social, psychological and informational support, advocacy for receiving social benefits, integration into the Jewish community and enablement for parents.
	Material Assistance Programs The program is designed for targeted assistance to Jewish children of preschool and school-age children in special or emergency situation requiring immediate medical or social welfare support
	Children SOS program One-time emergency assistance to children in the situations requiring immediate medical or social intervention: payment for expensive surgeries or medications, payment of family’s utility bills for avoiding eviction etc.
	Projects in the cities of Central Russia These centers of integral care for families now function in 10 cities of Central Russia providing all kinds of support to children from families at risk and reuniting them with local Jewish communities.
	Integration of children with special needs Preparing educational environment for accommodating and educating children with special needs; training of professionals, development of individual programs of rehabilitation and education for these children.
